Jury of experts
Five nominees for the art prize were selected from 140 entries submitted by young designers. The international jury of experts, consisting of the jury’s chairman Tulga Beyerle, co-founder of section a. and the Wiener Design Week, along with James G. Skone, Professor of Design at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts, Wladyslaw Pluta, Professor of Design at the University of Fine Arts in Cracow, Poland, and Katarina Hubova, Managing Director of the Slovakian Design Center, decided in favor of Rajmund Domán, a designer born in Hungary in 1985, as the Henkel Art.Award. 2007 prize winner.
A broad spectrum of contemporary industrial design
“The basis for our decision for these five particular nominees was our conviction that we wanted to present a broad spectrum of contemporary industrial design, corresponding to the current situation in Europe. On the one hand, we shortlisted examples of professional, classical industrial design from the numerous entries submitted. On the other hand, we also selected up and coming designers with convincing ideas and those with freer, more playful and poetic forms of expression through design. Each decision-making session focused on the depth and enduring features of the design, as well as the quality, both from an aesthetic and functional point of view.
And the winner is…
“The final decision as to who would win the Henkel Art.Award. 2007 was a unanimous one. The choice was Rajmund Domán of Hungary. For one thing, the design of the product submitted (a portable coffee maker) was coherent and convincing in every respect, from the idea to the actual composition and presentation. Furthermore, we intentionally wanted to promote and encourage a young designer at a time in this individual’s life, when this support could have the biggest possible effect”, the jury added.
