Ceresit History
1905
Saw the official birth of Bitumenwerke GmbH in Datteln. The patented product manufactured at this plant was a bituminous emulsion for waterproofing cellars which was to become the basis for an internationally successful brand: Ceresit.
1907
Relocation to Unna and change of company name to Wunnersche Bitumenwerke GmbH
1908
Invention of Ceresit - a sealant used as non- bituminous additive to produce waterproof cement mortars
1910
World exhibition in Brussels - worldwide breakthrough of the brand
1911
Foundation of subsidiaries, in Chicago, London, Vienna, Paris and Warsaw, etc.
1946
Reorganization of business relations at home and abroad
1961
1961 Change of company name to Ceresit-Werke GmbH - expansion of the product range to include paints and plasters
1980
Change of name to Ceresit GmbH - promotion of brand awareness, e.g. by intensive advertising
1986
The new owner, Henkel KGaA, sets the course for further growth
1990
Foundation of Henkel Bautechnik GmbH, with its brands Ceresit and Thomsit representing the building chemicals sector of Henkel KGaA
1992
Separation of the distribution lines into Ceresit, the professional brand for the specialist trade, and the DIY brand Ceresit Haus+Bau for DIY stores
1993
Launch of an innovative technology in Germany, featuring a self-adhesive sealing membrane for cold application in all weathers (BT 21)
1997
1997 Ceresit is one of the most important brands in the building chemicals trade and has acquired a strong brand image through constant innovation, and by continuous targeting of professional builders and tile layers.
2001
Launch of CM 18 EasyFlex, a revolutionary new generation of tile adhesives in Germany.
2002
Ceresit CM 18 EasyFlex wins the gold medal at the BUDMA. March of this year sees the foundation of Henkel Bautechnik Ltd. (Russia).
Ceresit is awarded the Ukrainian State Prize in the field of science and technology.
2003
In Kolomna, one hundred kilometers southeast of Moscow, a new Ceresit plant is opened.
2004
Packaging relaunch of Ceresit. The second Ukrainian factory is opened in Balaklea.
2005
Ceresit celebrates its 100th anniversary.
