Thomsit History

1946 SAW THE MARKET DEBUT OF LINOLEUM ADHESIVE "A"
Thomsit looks back at 60 years of brand adhesives

Already 60 years of age but years from being old. Adhesives made by Thomsit stand for innovative leadership: they had and still have a formative influence on flooring technology and have decisively contributed to advancing its development over a period of six decades. In 1946, the linoleum adhesive Thomsit "A" set the starting point for this technological development.

At that time, the letter "A" symbolized the Henkel Group's entry into a new market segment. After Henkel adhesives had already established themselves in several business lines and different industries, Thomsit took the floor with the linoleum adhesive "A". Or to be precise: the dry floor. The first linoleum adhesive leaving the Henkel production site in 1946 had been explicitly designed for all dry substrates.

The roots of Henkel's adhesive business go back even further - right back to the early 20s of the last century. The story can be told in just a few words. Dissatisfied with the reparation payments made by the German Reich, France occupied the German Ruhr region and blocked all trade routes and flows of goods.

An apparent disaster for the company Henkel. It is true that, among others, the supply of adhesives used for closing the Persil cartons was suddenly cut off. However, this did not paralyze the company. The chemists employed in Henkel's detergent division were quick to react: they developed a first generation of adhesives for their own needs. When the Ruhr blockade was lifted, the new business line was already enjoying brisk demand. Today, Henkel is the world market leader in adhesives.

Thomsit looks back at a success story similar to that of the parent company.
On 30 January 1942, protection of the name Thomsit had already been filed for the first time at the German Patent Office in Munich - a brand was born.
Since that time, it has gained a reputation which in the trade has long since stood for first-rate quality, maximum reliability and customer-oriented service.
With this biography, Thomsit counts among the most tradition-steeped brands of Germany's economic landscape and is in good company with many other brands from the Henkel parent company.

Not long after the market debut of Thomsit "A", Thomsit complemented its portfolio by the insulation adhesive Thomsit "B", the copal resin putty Thomsit "C" as well as the seam putty Thomsit "D". And ever since, numerous technological innovations characterize the history of Thomsit's assortment that has been consistently further developed over the past six decades. Newly developed EasyTechnology and the Sicure Parquet Technology are some of the latest innovations to join the Henkel product family.
