Winners Henkel Art.Award. 2004

The granting of the Henkel Art.Award.2004 took place within the framework of a festive gala ceremony on November 4, 2004 at Porcia Palace in Vienna. The award, endowed with the sum of 5,000 Euro, is designed to improve understanding of the CEE region and cultural area, and serve as a contribution to the process of European integration.

The 2004 Henkel Art.Award. granted in the category of “Experimental Design”, was bestowed on Ines Vlahović of Croatia. With her work entitled “Wing”, she was selected as the winner of the Henkel Art.Award. 2004, placing ahead of the four other finalists.

“The “Wing” project is characterized by an extremely perceptive and insightful application of established forms of the so-called windmill technique together with a new approach. The expressive design enables the user to gain a personal sense of the power of wind,“ says Prof. Ernst Beranek, Chairman of the Art.Award. jury, in justifying the decision.

“Wing“ is actually a windmill, which is used, alternatively, as an umbrella, a flying device as well as a personal wind generator. Metal, cloth and ropes are the materials which are used in this work of art. The idea behind the model is to unite wind, movement and light. In this way, only natural energy is being used and converted.

The award-winning artist Ines Vlahović was born in Split in 1976, and graduated from the Faculty for Product Design at the University of Zagreb in 2002. Her works have already been exhibited, for example, in the Zagreb Design School “37th Zagreb Salon“. Another exhibition of the photographer and designer will soon take place. This is due to the fact that the Henkel Art.Award.2004 sponsored by Henkel CEE makes it possible for her works to be presented in an exhibition taking place in her home country of Croatia.
