Opus - Henkel Art.Award. 2005 winner Petar Mirkovic

The works submitted by Petar Mirkovic from Serbia and Montenegro were of a convincing nature to the jury, whose decision was unanimous. Prof. Gerhard Müller, who chaired the jury, justified the choice of Mr. Mirkovic as follows: “The reason for giving the award to Petar Mirkovic from Serbia and Montenegro for his graphic drawings was not due to the fact that mimetic moments in the current-day art scene reflect the spirit of the age. On the contrary, Mr. Mirkovic convincingly demonstrated to the jury that his so-called ‘antiquated’ technique of charcoal drawing managed to come close to reality in a qualitatively impressive manner. Through contrasts and directing the flow of light, magical moments arise in regards to what would be considered a trivial subject. As a result, reference can only be made to something representative beyond that.”
